âYour carâs here?â Chris asked, rolling to his side and propping himself on his elbow so he could look at her. She was a feast for his eyes, beautiful in any state, even with her messy hair, makeup smudged beneath her eyes, kiss-swollen lips, and sapphire blue eyes blown wide with lust.
Sofia nodded as she typed something on her phone, then tossed it back to the table and rose to her feet. She ran her fingers through her hair, the strands mussed and tangled from her time spent with him. She grabbed her clothes from the floor on the way to the bathroom and closed the door quietly behind her.
Chris snagged his jeans from the floor and yanked them on, muttering under his breath to himself. He and Sofia had spent the last three hours in bed, and it had been unbelievable. Heâd done things to her that made her scream his name, made her come undone over and over until sheâd passed out in his arms. Heâd kept her snuggled against his side for the last hour, half asleep. They hadnât talked, and he had demanded nothing in return. The only thing heâd wanted was to keep her close to him. Sheâd seemed happy to oblige.
âShit,â he mumbled. âShit, shit, shit.â The one thing he hadnât wanted to happen was happening. He was falling for Sofia, and if he was being honest with himself, he didnât care. In fact, he kind of liked the idea.
He took a step toward the bathroom door, maybe to tell her, maybe to chase her awayâhe wasnât sure whichâbut his phone chose that moment to ring. Chris yanked it from his pocket, grumbling under his breath when he saw who it was. He ignored it, like heâd been doing for days, hitting the dismiss button and dropping it to the table, but it started again almost immediately, an annoying, incessant âanswer me nowâ ring. He snatched it off the table.
âHello.â Chris knew he sounded short, curt, irritated, but he didnât care.
It was Ginny. It was always Ginny. He couldnât get away from her, even after telling her it was over. He did his best to keep his voice even and neutral as he listened to her prattle on, begging him to reconsider, begging him to give her a chance to prove that she could be the girlfriend she needed. Her voice grated on his nerves, making him wince as her volume increased, her words slurring. He suspected she was drunk.
âIâm so sorry,â she whined. âCanât we try again? Please? We could go to that fundraiser together, the one coming up next week. We were supposed to go anyway. We could start fresh, try again without our managers or the press involved. Just the two of us. Please, love, Iâm begging you.â
God, he hated it when she called him love. It sounded so fake coming out of her mouth. Everything that came out of her mouth sounded fake.
âNo, Ginny,â he replied, emotionless. âWeâve talked about this.
